On the Day of my turn to be Interviewed , Re-edited

Okay...dah a few days aku tak update my blog. It seems to me almost every day passes by is no more than 1 second. Time really flies man!

The whole weekend was well spent in Delaware, ignoring all my homeworks plus my incoming senior design presentation which will be on this Tuesday. I met with a lot of colleagues, both graduating seniors as well as juniors. Even one of them introduced to me as my junior back in high school and it took me a while to figure out who is this fella.

As many can see the picture above, all of them are the freshmen. New blood..hehehehe..young and fresh. All of them seem eager to conquer the world without realizing what are the things waiting for them in college world. And so many of them are majoring in Chemical Engineering. I am not trying to belittle them, it's just that my intuition tells me that almost half of these brilliant minds will change their major by the end of sophomore year. Despite all the prestige about being a Chemical Engineering, especially in petroleum-based company such as PETRONAS, it indeed takes up almost an entire of your college life to fit in the life syllabus of Chemical Engineering. As for me, after being almost 5 years in this major, only one thing I can conclude about it - Chemical Engineering sucks!

But hey, it's almost over now! Hehehehe..and I bid all the new bloods in Ch E a very good luck and all of the best in their next 3 or 4 years in Chemical Engineering.

While I was trying to sustain my negative personal view about Chemical engineering, I also did my love-and-loathe major a favor by telling these new freshmen about the advantages being a Chemical Engineer, especially if you're hired by PETRONAS (well..exclude the monetary value though!). When a few of them expressed their intention to change the major, all I said was, "Usually when people go against the odds, at the end of the day, it will pay off!". But I didnt tell them to stay in the major as well. So it's totally up to them, if they can deliver and rise to the occassion, why not? Besides, what is life without some challenges, right people?

Well..another thing which I couldnt escape was to 'cuci mata' , looking all at these hot ladies of PETRONAS scholars. I told my suite mates, Yus and Hairi, both from University of Michigan, "Wehh..tak sangka siall kita ada ramai juniors cun..hahha, tapi apsal time kita dah nak graduate diorang baru datang aahh?". They both seemed to agree with me. Hehehehe...boys all are united!

Apa-apa hal pun, ada satu hal yang aku agak kecewa. I mean, not really kecewa gila-gila lah, cuma terkilan sket. I saw a lot of young PETRONAS scholars seemed not to respect or appreciate the corporate environment while they were at the briefing. My frustration was shared with quite a number of the seniors as well. Aku yakin giler aa ramai juniors ingat seniors stuck up nak mampus sebab kitorang fully dressed up, wearing the suit all the time while the ladies put on their business outfit gorgeously. And the juniors were wearing sneakers, jeans and untucked shirt. Maybe to some people, it's okay to wear those kind of outfits. Tapi aku payah sket nak terima sebabnya environment kita tak izinkan kita berpakaian macam tu. Bagi aku, kita perlu hormat protocol of the occasion. Besides, PETRONAS is a business entity with a polished image (except in the royalty issue with T'ganu), surely the scholars must embrace and project this kind of image or else, quit being a PETRONAS scholar (aisey, start ler aku poyo!).

I guess maybe sebab student advisor kami tak baper strict sangat kot. The previous student advisor, Kak Siza, she was very strict about the protocol of attire and the manner which we need to possess during the briefing session. She simply didn't care what we wanted to do after the briefing as long as we behaved nicely during the program. During her tenure, she always make sure everything is in order, everyone is kept at one place and most importantly, the schedule of solat berjemaah is provided. Ah well, it doesn't mean that she's a good student advisor though! This current student advisor, although he is undeniably good at communicating with students, he seems to ignore the fact that many of these juniors as well as the seniors need to be groomed into the corporate setting of PETRONAS. Plus there is no solat berjemaah slot provided by the organizer for muslim students. I was quite dissappointed jugak la kan.

The interaction between the seniors and the juniors are very limited. Most of us chose to remain in our groups, gossipping and talking about each other's personal stories as we had not met with each other for quite sometimes. Perhaps to some people, this is a very lame and trivial issue, but I do think the polarization existed in this small society of PETRONAS scholars must come to an end. I know not everyone is dare enough to introduce themselves to everyone outside of their social circle. it's a reality but we surely can start it by pushing ourselves to it.

For instance la kan...aku agak berkenan la juga kat minah yang pakai baju merah dalam gambar kat atas tu. Dia student kat U of Delaware and majoring in Chemical Engineering..and she is freshman! I couldn't help myself from keep looking at her since the formal dinner with Vice President of HRM. Waktu tu aku duduk semeja dengan VP and sambil layan sembang dengan VP, sesekali jeling kat minah tu masa dia duduk kat round table sebelah. Hahahahaa..Tapi aku segan la juga nak kenal ngan minah tu. Malu ahh nak introduce myself, although I am senior compared to her. So apa aku buat, recalling the idea yang Mukeh pernah buat kat KLCC waktu nak usha awek-awek kat sana..hahahaha..aku pun mintak la yahoo messenger ID bebudak freshman ni yang kebetulan tengah duduk surrounding this lady in red jacket and red tudung. So aku dapatlah minah ni punyer sekali..hahaha..tapi aku takde la pulak buang yahoo ID bebudak freshman yang lain. Semua pun aku add. Penting ni, ni semua asset untuk buat network nanti..who knows kan? In future one of them may have higher position than me..or they can help me in doing my work ke kan..kena fikir jauh sket!

Heheheh..mungkin analogi yang aku bagi tu salah kot. Ah well, lantak la..korang paham la kot apa menda yang aku nak cakap. Takkan asyik nak stay within your own cliques ajer kan..move out la sket..reach to other people. Aku pun sendiri took effort nak mingle dengan freshman, sophomore and junior scholars although aku sendiri kekadang terasa macam terpinggir bila diorang start bukak citer batch sendiri. It's ok...as long we have the intention to mix with them, itu pun dah cukup baik bagik aku.

Anyway..apa-apa pun..overall nyer aku enjoy la jumpa dengan bebudak semua, seeing old friend, meeting new friends, making connections again, patch up the old connection..keep up with new gossips with buddies from all over the parts of US. Not to forget, cuci mata tengok awek-awek cun! Hahahaha....
