Perghhh..punyer best Professor. Cayalahh..takde kelas 2 hari..(lerr...macam ler aku selalu pergi pun kelas Senior Design).
Professor Nedwick is my Senior Design course instructor. Although he only has bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering which he obtained it years before I was born, but due to his enormous experience in designing the chemical plants in the real industry has qualified him the Associate Professor in Chemical Engineering Department.
He was the General Manager for Design Division in ARCO Chemical Company. Soon after he retired from the industry, he joined Penn State Ch E Dept. as the sole design course instructor. He enjoyed reading cartoons and chats about his life experience with his class.
Quite honestly, he's one of the fun faculty members to work with (the second would be Dr. Duda). His class usually sets in a very casual style, he uses a lot of informal languages, makes a lot of jokes in the class and most importantly, he gives a lot of extremely easy quizzes. For instance, one of his quizzes's question was "Before Mt. Everest was discovered, which mountain is the tallest in the world?". Everybody was guessing for Alps and for some ignorant Americans, they probably put Rocky Mountain or maybe Andirondack for some Yankees in the class (well..I should've put Mount Kinabalu..hahahaha). But the real answer is Mount Everest. Damn...he's a prick! He claimed, although the Mt Everest wasn't discovered until 1955, the fact that it is still the tallest mountain still remains. Duhh!!!
However (see..everybody has weaknesses, ok?), the way he grades the assignment is sometimes far too much. He is very strict when it comes to the system/plant design. Maybe he wants us to be cautious about designing stuff because our fault's at designing the plant may cost some people's life. For instance, some carelessness caused a huge explosion in the chemical plant in Bhopal, India which killed hundreds of people. Another is the explosion caused again by the carelessness of the plant operator in his previous company which caused 17 people died. Yes indeed, they are tragedies and I am sure Nedwick will remember that for the rest of his life.
Another thing that I like about this guy is the way he gives his advice. He treats you just like his friends, sometimes like his children. Most of his advices come from his years of experience. Wisdom in steering yourself in industry is mainly what he talks about to us. Yeah, sometimes he shares some real stories in his marriage and having a family..hhehehehe.
I am guessing his age would be around 65 to 70 (Dr. Duda is wayyyyyy much older than him, he got his master when Martin Luther King was killed in 1968, imagine how old is he??!).
Powerbook Blues Ends
Allrite, I got my Powerbook now. The guy at Willard Building claimed the fault maybe rests at the hardware. So, just like what I expected. He said, I can try to confirm it by bringing the laptop to the computer store at downtown and ask them to open the hardware but surely it will cost me money. If it's not caused by the hardware, then do the clean-install.
I clarified to him that I re-installed my OS many times on my laptop. Then he just nodded; he confirmed my suspicion. This son of gun laptop has a bad spot on its hard drive. It means, I have to change the hard drive by hook or by crook. Okay, this is shitty.
Now I am just waiting for my allowance to get a new harddrive. There's nothing much I can do..Urghhhh..
